India : Colistin and Tigecycline are the drugs to fight against NDM-1

This is from IC Tech News and I'm not too sure the credibility of the content and facts to the story but it's worth posting, anyway here's the excerpt :

" Two of the very famous drugs Colistin and Tigecyline are the cure towards New Delhi mettallo-betalactamase or NDM-1. NDM-1 or superbug allows bacteria to escape some of the strongest antibiotics available hence two of the oldest drugs Colistin and Tigecyline are the only options to depend upon while considering treatment of this disease.

Three people who have returned to the US from India earlier this year have been found to be infected by this superbug. NDM-1 is highly resistant to antibiotics as told by the US Centres for Diseases Control and Prevention. The three patients from Massachusetts, California, and Illinois were confirmed with this superbug after receiving medical care in India.

According to doctors the cause of this disease is due to hygiene. The first patient who was from Massachusetts was isolated and then treated to help prevent the germ from spreading. The other patients developed a urinary track infection that was genetic in nature."
