India : More suspected cases of dengue

An article from Times of India, dengue seems to be increasing daily in Lucknow :

" LUCKNOW: Suspected cases of dengue fever are on a rise in the state capital. According to estimates gathered from the medical institutions and hospital, over two dozen suspected cases were reported during the weekend.

Health officials pointed out that there was no need to worry as most of these cases were referred ones. However, they advised that those who have been ill with high fever, especially after returning from Delhi or National Capital Region ( NCR), should consult a physician at the earliest to rule out the possibility of dengue.

Five patients were admitted to Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University (CSMMU), said chief medical superintendent ( CMS) Prof S N Sankhwar. "The platelet count in these patients is very low and we have sent their samples for confirmation,'' he said.

Balrampur Hospital and Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital registered as many as six suspected cases of dengue, each. Patients with high fever, the main symptom of dengue, also arrived at Civil Hospital on Sunday.

Director general, medical health, UP, Dr S P Ram urged people to take preventive measures against dengue. "Instructions have also been issued to all district hospitals to make proper arrangements for dengue patients. The patients would be provided mosquito net so that they do not act as carrier,'' he said."
