" Queensland Health (QH) says people should take precautions to avoid mosquito-borne diseases which are likely to increase over summer.
QH spokesman Virgil Kelk says rain and flooding provide ideal conditions for mosquito breeding and residents can do simple things like clean up their yards to reduce potential breeding sites.
"If we are going to see flood levels and certainly rainfall levels not inconsistent with what we saw earlier this year, we can certainly expect an increase in both mosquito activity and also the possibility of mosquito-borne disease," he said.
He says dengue fever is not a concern at this stage."
