India : Further HPAI Cases in East Garo Hills District

" The Indian veterinary authorities have reported more cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza in East Garo Hills district in the state of Meghalaya.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received follow-up report no. 1 on Friday, 13 January. According to the report received, the outbreak took place at a state government-run poultry farm in William Nagar.

A total of 20,194 birds showed signs of susceptibility to the outbreak, out of which 2732 cases were identified. All 2732 birds were found dead, while none were destroyed.

The source of the outbreak remains inconclusive. However, epidemiological investigation is ongoing. Stamping out of all domestic poultry is being applied in an approximately 3-km radius zone around the outbreak followed by compensation to the owners."
