Malaysia : Govt assures chicken products free of bird flu virus

Via The Star :

" There are no live birds import from China and chicken products sold at markets are free of the H5N1 virus, said Veterinary Services Department director-general Datuk Dr Abdul Aziz Jamaluddin.

He said Malaysia does not allow the import of live birds from China, where a man in Guangdong province died after contracting the bird flu last week.

He said only chicken powder and pure chicken oil were imported from Guangdong, both of which pose no risk to health as they have been processed at a high temperature.

"We also import about 28,000 metric tonnes of frozen chicken meat from the Shandong province, which is free from the H5N1 virus," he told a press conference here."
