India, Karnataka : Nine more cholera cases in Holalu; swine flu reported

" The waterborne disease has spread to neighbouring Vaddara Koppalu and Panakana Halli.

While the authorities concerned are taking steps to curb the spread of cholera in Holalu village in Mandya taluk, a case of influenza A (H1N1) virus, commonly known as swine flu, has been reported in Mandya city.

In Holalu village, nine more cases of cholera were reported on Wednesday. The waterborne disease has spread to neighbouring Vaddara Koppalu and Panakana Halli.

Mandya District Health Officer T.N. Marigowda, while confirming the swine flu case in Mandya city, said Jayamma (55), wife of Chowda Shetty, is undergoing treatment at BGS Apollo Hospital in Mysore.

In view of A (H1N1) case, the Mandya district administration has intensified surveillance in the locality."

India, Karnataka : Belgaum woman tests positive for H1N1

"  A 50-year-old woman from Yamgarni village of Belgaum district, who was admitted to a city hospital last week, has tested positive for swine flu. 

Civil surgeon at the Chhatrapati Pramila Raje Civil Hospital L S Patil said, "The woman was admitted in the hospital last week after she complained of high fever. 

Her throat swab sample was sent to the National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune on Thursday and it tested positive for swine flu. We have informed concerned officials in Belgaum district to take immediate steps in the village as some patients from the village had earlier been admitted with swine flu symptoms." 

India : 12 A(H1N1) deaths reported In Karnataka this year

" The panic over influenza A(H1N1) may have subsided but the virus is still in the air. As many as 12 deaths have been reported in the State from January till date. Although this number is much less compared with the 135 deaths reported during the first outbreak in 2009, doctors said it was important to take precautions.

According to an official statement released by the State Health and Family Welfare Department, 5,420 of the 29,990 samples have tested positive for the virus from 2009 till date. A total of 331 people have succumbed to the infection during this period. Of these, 12 deaths, including three in Bangalore, were reported this year (from January till date). Two deaths, including one from Bangalore, were reported in the last fortnight alone.

Officials of the Health Department are on an alert following this. Health Director B.N. Dhanya Kumar told The Hindu that the department initiated surveillance measures in July itself. “With the fluctuating weather — rain and the continuous drop in temperature —cases of A(H1N1) are being reported from across the State,” he said."

India, Karnataka : Dengue cases jump 3-fold in state

" Karnataka has more than triple the number of dengue cases from January to June this year compared to the corresponding period last year. And the powers-that-be don’t seem to be taking it seriously enough. 

As per the Health Department statistics, the same period in 2012 saw 745 confirmed cases, while this year there have been 2,547 cases so far, including nine deaths. 

And the number of suspected cases is also in the same ratio — against 3,733 cases in 2012, the Health Department has identified 11,135 suspected cases this year.

In Bangalore city, there are 372 confirmed cases and 549 suspected cases.

Bangalore Urban District in-charge Minister Ramalinga Reddy, though, said on July 10 that the city had seen only 78 cases of dengue.

These, incidentally, are just the cases officially registered by the state government. Dengue cases in private clinics and hospitals have not even been accounted for, as there is no system of getting these details."

India : Two more die of malaria in Bellary; toll rises to 28

" Bellary (Kar), Nov 8 : The death toll in Karnataka's Bellary district due to malaria and dengue has risen to 28 in the last three weeks with the death of two more persons today, officials said.

The deceased were a 60-year-old woman and a 12-year-old boy, both from the worst-affected Bhuvanahalli village, they said."

Karnataka, India : Two women die of A(H1N1)

" Two women have died of A(H1N1) influenza in a private hospital here in the last three days.

With this, the number of A(H1N1) deaths in Hubli-Dharwad this year has touched three. A youth had died of the flu two months ago in Dharwad.

Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) Health Officer Prabhu Biradar told The Hindu on Thursday that a 65-year-old woman, a resident of Keshwapur, who was tested positive for A(H1N1) died in the hospital on Thursday. She was admitted to the hospital with complaints of fever and cough.

Dr. Biradar said that a 35-year-old pregnant woman, a resident of Mantur Road here, was admitted to the hospital with complaints of fever 10 days ago. Tests confirmed that she had A(H1N1). She delivered a stillborn baby after which her condition became serious. The woman, who was on ventilator support, died on Tuesday night."

India : H1N1 claims 95 lives in Karnataka

Via New Kerala, this report has an update about dengue and chikungunya too :

" Bangalore, Aug 27 : The death toll due to dreaded H1N1 influenza in Karnataka was to 95 till August 25 this year, Minister for Health B Sriramulu said today.

Talking to newsmen here, he said 1702 people were affected by the H1N1 this year. Necessary instructions were given to District Health Officers (DHOs) to take all precautions and provide timely treatment to the affected.

Stating that there was no shortage of medicines, the minister said the responsibility has been fixed on DHOs and whoever was found responsible for any laxity would face strict action.

He said steps were also taken to fight chikungunya and dengue in view of the revival of the monsoon.

He said there were 927 chikungunya cases in the state, but no death had occurred, he said.

Dengue claimed one life while 1,294 had been affected by it, he added."
