Kuwait reports 2nd MERS-CoV. infection case

" A 52-year old citizen tested positive for the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) infection, the Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday.

The man has recently arrived from an overseas trip; his condition is stable so far, Dr. Mosaab Al-Saleh, head of the Ministry's anti-epidemic unit, told KUNA tonight. "The man was admitted to the Infectious Diseases Hospital and the necessary preventive measures were put in place pursuant to the guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO)," he added.

Dr. Al-Saleh noted that the second infection case has no relation to the first one announced earlier today.

All those in contact with the first case - a 47-year old citizen, are in good health, he said, promising that the Ministry will update the public on the developments of the matter in a transparent way."

Qatar : One patient recovered, another died in MERS coronavirus

" The Supreme Council of Health (SCH) in Qatar has announced the recovery of a patient inflected with MERS coronavirus and another passed away from the same deadly illness.

The first patient started to show signs of the virus on August 15 before he came back from a trip outside the country. Once he was in the country, he was admitted to hospital to receive proper treatment.

After a course of treatment, he recovered, the SCH statement read Saturday. The second patient, meanwhile, was battling several health issues. On August 17, he started showing signs of the deadly respiratory disease.

He died after he was admitted to the intensive care unit. Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) is viral respiratory illness first reported in Saudi Arabia in 2012. It is caused by a coronavirus called MERS-CoV. Most people who have been confirmed to have MERS-CoV infection developed severe acute respiratory illness.

They had fever, cough, and shortness of breath. About half of these people died."

Unknown disease kills 104 people in Yemen

" A mysterious disease has claimed the lives of 104 people in the Yemeni western province of Al-Hadida, a health official said here Sunday.

The disease kills people in just two days, and its symptoms include acute bleeding, rapid kidney failure and a significant rise of temperature, followed by a quick coma and sudden death, Director of the Yemeni doctors and pharmacists guild, Najib Malhi said in a statement.

Until this moment, doctors in the country cannot diagnose the illness, of symptoms that differ from the locally-common Dengue fever, caused by the Aedes aegypti mosquito.

The Yemeni cabinet, two weeks ago, announced Al-Hadida, "a province infected with a strange disease," tasking the health minister with the role of increasing locate to explore its cause and remedy."

Algeria reports 5 swine flu cases, another three probable

" The Algerian Health Ministry has recorded five positive cases of swine flu, with another three to be confirmed.

Analyses reveal five positive cases of the Influenza A (H1N1) virus south of the country, with another three likely, Health Minister Jamal Ould Abbas said in a statement Thursday.

A women in her forties and her children, after being found infected with the virus, have been receiving treatment and are now showing signs of recovery, he added."

Egyptian doctor dies of swine flu

" CAIRO, Jan 23 : An Egyptian doctor has died of swine flu, the Ministry of Health said Sunday.It said the 51-year-old doctor, from Al-Sharqiya district, northern Cairo, did not ask for medical advice when symptoms appeared had taken medication for flu by himself, Ministry spokesman Dr. Abdulrahman Shaheen said in a statement.

He said the doctor, whose name was not disclosed, was given Tamiflu but five days after symptoms started to appear.He explained that the deceased was suffering from a chronic chest inflamation caused by heavy smoking."

Egypt declares 598 confirmed H1N1 flu cases within week

" CAIRO, Jan 16 : Deaths due to H1N1 flu, better known as swine flu, hit 26 this week in Egypt with most of them of highly pathogenic cases, spokesman of the Ministry of Health Dr. Abdulrahman Shahin said here Sunday.

He added in a statement that those of chronic diseases and pregnant account for 75 percent of these highly pathogenic cases.Shahin added that the efforts made by the monitoring teams from Jan. 9 to Jan 15 led to detecting 598 cases of swine flu."

Jordan reports 9th swine flu fatality

" The Jordanian Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday the ninth death from the H1N1 (swine flu) pandemic, with 130 discovered cases so far.

According to a ministry statement, 73 cases recovered from the flu, while 30 others are being home-treated and 18 more in hospitals; two of which are critical ones."

Jordan confirms 11 fresh swine flu cases

" AMMAN, Dec 30 : Eleven new H1N1 (swine flu) cases were confirmed on Thursday here, bringing the total number of cases in the Kingdom to 44, including four deaths.

Twelve H1N1 patients have recovered from of the disease.

Eleven patients are currently receiving treatment at home, while 17 remain hospitalized, the Jordanian News Agency (Petra) quoted a statement by the health ministry as saying."

Egypt announces 10th bird flu fatality in ''10

Since the national outbreak of the pandemic in 2006, some 113 cases were discovered; 37 of which led to death, the Egyptian health ministry said in a statement."

Egypt announces 110th discovered bird flu case

" CAIRO, July 24 : Egypt on Saturday announced the 110th discovered bird flu case in the country, saying the patient's condition is "critical".

"The 20-year-old female was transferred to Sadr al-Abbasiya Hospital in Cairo, as she was suffering from high temperature and breathing difficulties," Health Ministry Spokesman Dr. Abdulrahman Shahin told reporters.

The patient has been medicated with Tamiflu and is still under supervision, he noted.

Egypt had taken preventive measures to contain the pandemic since its outbreak in 2006, including restraints on mobilizing live birds between provinces, as well as banning the slaughtering of birds outside allocated locations among other precautions."
