" The Ministry of Health Epidemiology Unit revealed 5,264 dengue cases reported in the country from January 01 to May 13, resulting in 42 deaths so far.
The Epidemiology Unit also said during the first 13 days of May this year, 433 cases were recorded.
Colombo district recorded the highest number of dengue cases, the Health Ministry in its report said 1.727 patients were reported in Colombo followed by Gampaha, Batticaloa, and Kalutara districts.
The Health Ministry has warned the public to be vigilant and keep environments clean to rid mosquito breeding."

Sri Lanka : Dengue on the rise - Eradication process expedited

" The public are advised to be on the alert as Dengue is rising its head once more with the adverse wet weather conditions in the country, Coordinator of Dengue Program, Dr Nimalka Pannilahetti told Lankapuvath.
It is important to reduce dengue deaths and destroy mosquito breeding places. The process is already underway with the support of the Special Presidential Task Force.
Health Officers in the areas are now conducting surveys to identify and destroy breeding places according to larva (worm) data gathered in areas. Measures are also taken to dengue larva, Dr Pannilahetti said.
The program is being assisted by the District Sectretaries, Health Officers and other government agents.
Over 4225 dengue cases were reported during the month of April with most cases being reported from Colombo, Gampaha and Batticaloa. 39 deaths were also reported so far."

" The Epidemiology Unit of Ministry of Health said dengue cases reported during this year indicated a sharp increase.
Accordingly, 3560 dengue cases were recorded from January this year to date.
The Health Ministry also said from April 01 to 18 there were 502 cases, 907 cases in January, 1050 February and 1101 in March.
The highest number of patients, 1207 came from the Colombo District followed by 427 patients in the Gampaha District and 209 from the Batticaloa District.
The Ministry of Health also drew special attention to contain the disease as the highest number of cases was being reported in April every year."
