" Children and elderly people in Kachin refugee camps along the Sino-Burmese border have contracted cholera because of unsafe drinking water, according to workers with the Relief Action Network for IDP and Refugees (Ranir).
More than 30 children have contracted cholera and one child has died of the disease at the Pajau Refugee Camp, Ranir said.
Three refugee camps in Mansi Township and the Pajau Camp in Waimaw Township in Kachin State are all experiencing a lack of sanitary drinking water, Ranir official La Rip told Mizzima. The camps are located in mountainous areas making access to clean drinking water and toilet facilities difficult.
In China, the Ruili District adjacent to Kachin State has also experienced a cholera outbreak, according to the Wunpawng Ning Htoi group (People’s Light), which works to provide food and medicine to Kachin refugees. No estimates of how many cases have occurred were available.
May Li Aung, a worker with the Wunpawng Ning Htoi, told Mizzima that drinking water is unsafe and there are few sanitary toilets in the mountainous areas. Workers said the refugee camps near towns have enough water and sanitary toilets."

Myanmar : Committee formed to fight avian flu in Pyinmana

" After an outbreak of avian flu in the area, the Pyinmana Township Peace and Development Committee (TPDC) has formed a resident-based anti-avian flu committee comprising six teams.
The committee, made up of the Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department, the city development department, the police department, the fire department and the Red Cross, will work on the eradication and prevention of the disease, said committee officials.
‘We made field visits to villages near Naypyidaw and Pyinmana besides urban areas to inspect the poultry farms. We also set up checkpoints at the entry to the city to block the flow of poultry in and out of town’, a committee member told Mizzima."

Myanmar : Avian flu found, chicken meat banned in Sittwe

" Chiang Mai : After finding the avian flu virus in poultry farms in Sittwe in Rakhine State, chicken meat has been banned in the entire township until February 11, said the Rakhine State Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department and Township Health Department.
'They have imposed a 24-day ban since January 19. All chicken meat and eggs are banned during this period’, said a senior officer of Rakhine State Veterinary and Animal Husbandry.
He told Mizzima that a ‘highly pathogenic avian influenza’ (HPAI) was discovered in a poultry farm in Bumay Letthama village in Sittwe Township on January 12."

Myanmar : Avian flu found on a poultry farm in Sittwe

" Chiang Mai : The avian influenza has been detected on a poultry farm in Sittwe in Arakan State, according to the Burmese Ministry of Fishery and Livestock.The state newspapers confirmed that concerns first arose as some battery hens died on a poultry farm in Bumay Village in Sittwe Township. A Rangoon veterinary diagnostic lab diagnosed the deaths occurred because of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI).
The Sittwe Township husbandry and veterinary pathology department issued an alert not to eat chickens from the farm and to cook chickens from other farms thoroughly.On Tuesday, local health service officials and staff began to visit poultry farms in Arakan State to examine the farms and to spray insecticides, a spokesperson of the Arakan State Health Department told Mizzima.
A spokesperson at the Sittwe Township’s husbandry veterinary pathology department told Mizzima: ‘The poultry on the farm seemed to be infected and when the colour of the cockscombs of some male chickens turned black, they died. We contacted the veterinary diagnostic lab and found that the chickens were infected the influenza."

Truth and official lies about dengue in Burma’s hot spots

" Chiang Mai : The spread of dengue fever is posing a serious health risk to people in Burma, especially as it spreads through the epidemic hot spots of Irrawaddy and Pegu divisions and Karen and Mon states.
Irrawaddy Division
The total number of dengue cases reported in the division from January to the middle of this year was 1,221 and the death toll was 18, according to combined figures from the divisional health department, the state-run run Pathein People’s Hospital, and Mawlamyeinkyun Township Hospital and People’s Clinic.
The fever had a particular impact on Pathein Township and nearby villages. The number of victims treated at Pathein People’s Hospital until July 3 was 561, nine of whom were children between the ages of six and 14 who died, according to the divisional health department. Dengue has spread through 27 townships, affecting victims from villages in Pathein, Mawlamyinekyun, Laputta, Kangyihtount, Thapaung, Kyaungkone, Einmae and Phyarpon, a senior departmental official said.
In the dengue affected area of Mawlamyeinkyun, local authorities were preparing to use anti-mosquito spray and educate residents about the fever, but in unaffected areas, such preventative measures had been neglected until now, a township health department spokesman said. "
