Nepal : Bird flu detected in five more farms in Bhaktapur

" Authorities on Monday detected bird flue in five more poultry farms of Bhaktapur, thus bringing the total number of bird flu cases to 19 in the past 20 days since July 16, 2013 in Bhaktapur alone.

With this, the total number of bird flue in Kathmandu valley has reached 32 in 20 days.

“We are making efforts to control the spread. Our colleagues are working day and night to bring the disease under control,” said Narayan Ghimire, a senior veterinary doctor with the Department of Livestock Services.

“We will soon start culling the chickens. But we face difficulty as the number of chickens to be culled is in thousands,” said Khagendra Bhatta, chief of Bhaktapur Livestock Services Office."

Nepal : Bird flu confirmed in Pharphing

" Bird flu (H5N1 strain) has been confirmed at a poultry firm in Pharphing, Kathmandu.

The tests on a sample of the dead chicken of Dallu Hatchery and Feed Firm confirmed that the chicken died of avian influenza, according to the director of directorate of National Animal Health Ram Krishna Khatiwada. Hundreds of chicken had died at the firm.

Khatiwada also said that preventive measures to stop the spread of bird flu have been adopted keeping the area under high alert.

Earlier in the month of February, bird flu was confirmed in Sunsari and Ilam districts."

Nepal : Lab tests confirm outbreak of bird flu in Sunsari

" The government authorities Sunday confirmed outbreak of bird flu in Sunsari district where around 5,000 chickens had died earlier this week.

The tests on a sample of the dead chicken at a laboratory based in London, England confirmed that the chickens at two poultries in Khanar and Itahari died of bird flu, also called avian influenza, according to programme director of the directorate of National Animal Health (DNAH) Dr Ram Krishna Khatiwada.

Samples of the dead chicken were sent to the UK after the large number of chickens of Pathivara Poultry Firm and Itahari-based PK Poultry died earlier this week.

District authorities said they have started to adopt preventive measures to stop the spread of bird flu in the district. Other government agencies in the district have also been put on high alert."

Nepal : Dengue outbreak in Nawalparasi

" At least six dengue patients were found in different VDCs in Nawalparasi district this year, confirmed the District Public Health Office, Nawalparasi, RSS reports.

The dengue patients were found in the district as most of the VDCs in the district are close to Chitwan, which is one among the districts that are at high risk of dengue, informed the office.

Gaindakot, Mukundapur, Amarapuri, Rajahar and some other VDCs are at the high risk of this disease, said Harinandan Mahato, Vector Control of the office."

Nepal : Swine flu confirmed in two flood victims of Sunsari

" Health authorities have confirmed two of the victims displaced due to floods in Sunsari have contracted swine flu, Monday.

According to District Public Health Office, Sunsari, Khalid Mansuri, 55, and Gunjadevi Uraw, 44, have contracted swine flu.

It was confirmed after throat swab culture performed on their samples tested positive to the H1N1 virus."

Nepal : Swine flu suspected in Sunsari flood victims

" Health authorities suspect some people, who were displaced due to floods in Sunsari, have contracted swine flu.

District Public Health Office (DPHO), Sunsari has corresponded with higher up offices for verification and support after they found symptoms of swine flu in about 126 flood victims. A medical team of the district had conducted a health check-up on 102 victims living on the banks of Sunsari River in Jhokraha on Monday and 24 persons in the district hospital on Sunday.

DPHO chief Dayashankar Lal Karna said, most of the victims were suffering from fever, cold, headache, cough and respiratory problems. Blood samples of the suspected patients have been sent for further tests and swine flu test kits from the regional contact office of the WHO in Biratnagar have been taken to the the district."
