US : Measles Cases Headed to Record High

" Measles cases in the US are expected to hit a 10-year high, with virtually all cases linked to other countries.

The US typically sees about 50 cases of measles every year, but so far this year 89 have been reported. Almost every US outbreak has been sparked by travelers bringing the disease here from other countries.

Europe, particularly France, has been hit especially hard by the disease, with 6,500 cases reported in 33 countries. Officials from the World Health Organization are blaming the spike on a failure to have all children vaccinated--much of the stigma against vaccinations comes from lingering (and so far, unproven) accusation that the vaccine for measles, mumps and rubella is responsible for autism in children.

Of the 89 reported cases through the end of last week, 79 were people who were unvaccinated or who had no documentation of it."

Cholera Outbreak in Papua New Guinea Said to Raise Death Toll

" A cholera outbreak that hit Papua New Guinea is raising the death toll of nearby villagers. According to TheEpochTimes.com, more than 100 are now suspected dead from the cholera outbreak that originated in Daru, an island near Australia's Cape York.

Australia has restricted hundreds from traveling between the Torres Strait Islands and Papua New Guinea to contain the risk of a spread of the cholera outbreak.

Medical supplies and other forms of aid are being sent by the World Health Organization and Australian aid agency AusAID."
