" The highly pathogenic avian influenza virus H5N1 has broken out at two farms in the Chaung U Township, Sagaing, Myanmar.
Prof Dr Myint Thein, director general of the livestock breeding and veterinary department of the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries, based in Yangoon, reported the outbreak to the World Organization of Animal Health (OIE).
Standard laboratory diagnostics tests conducted at a regional lab in Mandalay and at the national lab gave a positive determination of the virus.
A total of 1060 layer chickens are susceptible, with 61 dead (which lead to the discovery of the disease), and 999 destroyed. The Chaung U Township numbers some 139 chicken farms of mixed broiler and layer chickens, with an estimated 40,000 chickens."

Avian Influenza in South African ostriches

" Highly pathogenic avian influenza has been confirmed in a flock of commercial ostriches in South Africa, the OIE has reported.
In a report dated 1st February, the OIE states that 12,278 birds were susceptible to the virus of which 1,028 cases have been confirmed. However, no culling has yet taken place.
The outbreak, of the serotype H7N1, was discovered during routine surveillance on the farm in the Western Cape Province. Certain emergency procedures have been put in place including quarantine at the farm in question and restricted movement control inside the country."

Indonesia : AI outbreak in Kutai Kertanegara district

" Recently, the livestock and animal health official of East Kalimantan province claimed that around 20,000 birds of kampong chicken reared intensively, not backyard farming, in Kutai Kertanegara district were dead because of Avian Influenza (AI).
It has been checked by using rapid test kit of AI and laboratory tests, reports Arief Fachurdin for World Poultry.
In order to prevent the spreading of the virus, around 800 birds of kampong chicken located near to the outbreak location have been depopulated by the official.
The official analysed that uncontrolled distribution of chicken (live bird) from other districts such as from Balikpapan and Samarinda where recent AI outbreaks were also found, might be the cause of the outbreak in Kutai Kertanegara district."
