Private property, public menace: Unkempt household conditions, as seen in this abandoned house at Lorong Mahsuri in Bayan Baru, make favourable conditions for mosquitoes to breed.

" THE fight against dengue is far from over. Penang Health, Welfare, Caring Society and Environment Com-mittee chairman Phee Boon Poh said the state Health Department and state government alone could not win the war.

“We need to educate the public that everyone has a part to play in this war against dengue,” he said in response to the 12 dengue hotspots in Penang identified by the state Health Department last week.

Seven hotspots are in the northeast district. They are Taman Desa Relau, BJ Court Bukit Jambul, Tingkat Sungai Gelugor, Treasure Ville Lintang Thean Teik, UDA Tanjung Tokong flats, Lebuh Macallum Seri Saujana flats and Taman Tun Sardon.

Four more — Persiaran Mayang Pasir, Kem Sungai Ara, Jalan Sungai Ara, Lorong Mahsuri and Kampung Jawa — are in the southwest district while the other is at Kampung Perlis in the northern Seberang Prai district."
