" New Delhi: Concerned over the reports of NDM-1 virus or ‘Superbug’ is present in Delhi water, the Union Health Ministry on Tuesday called an emergency meeting over the issue.
The meeting is being attended by New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC), Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and Delhi Jal Board (DJB) officials apart from the state government representatives.
The meeting is significant as it comes in light of the claims by international health journal ‘The Lancet’ about the presence of New Delhi metallo-beta-lactamase (NDM-1) virus in the water being supplied to the citizens of the national capital. The journal has accused the government of concealing the threat.
Meanwhile, not wanting to confirm or deny the presence of NDM-1 virus, Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit only said that the matter is being investigated.
She also appealed to the citizens of the metropolis not to worry."
