" KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 11 : Two deaths due to dengue fever were reported during the seven-day period from Aug 1, said the Director-General of Health, Tan Sri Dr Mohd Ismail Merican.He said both cases occurred in Melaka."The first case involved a 46-year-old woman clerk working in a bank, while the second case involved a 34-year-old man working as a manager in a private company," he said in a statement Wednesday.
He said the total number of fatalities also increased by 40 per cent to 94 cases compared with 67 deaths during the same period last year.He said that during the period under review, there were 987 cases reported compared with 1,101 cases during the previous week."
There were six states which showed an increase in the number of cases last week namely Melaka which reported an increase of 55 cases, Penang 11 cases, Terengganu (7), Negeri Sembilan (4), Perak (2) and Labuan (1)," he said."
