" BACOLOD CITY, Aug. 16 : Dengue cases in Negros Occidental and Bacolod City continue to rise and have already claimed 18 lives since January until mid-August, this year, the Department of Health (DOH) regional office here reported.

Of the total number of fatalities, 15 were from the province of Negros Occidental and three from Bacolod City.

In Bacolod City, the number of dengue cases from January to August 13 was recorded at 700.
The DOH identified Barangays Singcang, Banago, Tangub, Taculing, Pahanocoy, Felisa, Villamonte, and Mansilingan as dengue hotspots.

The high dengue incidence had left private hospitals in the city running out of rooms in recent weeks. The Doña Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital admitted 1,184 patients from January to August 13, with 11 deaths.

As this developed, Bacolod City Lone District Rep. Anthony R.T. Golez Jr. has already called on the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) to declare a state of calamity to properly address the high dengue cases in the city."
