" New Delhi, Nov 9 : The national capital has been reporting a substantial number of fresh dengue cases despite a dip in the mercury. According to the MCD, 35 new cases of the vector-borne disease were recorded today, taking the total number of patients this season to 5,837.
The cases of dengue generally start declining with the advent of winter as low temperature and less humidity are not conducive for the breeding of dengue-carrier aedes agypti mosquitoes. Though the number of cases has dipped this time too, still an average 30 cases are being reported everyday.
This year''s total is more than double of that reported in 2006 when the number of cases was 2,537, the previous high in the past five years. Eight persons have lost their lives to dengue this season."
