UK : Five contract Weil's disease in River Itchen

Via BBC News :

" Five people contracted a potentially fatal disease from a river in Hampshire.

Two of the five were hospitalised with Weil's disease - a bacteria also called Leptospirosis and spread by infected animal urine - after canoeing on the River Itchen in Southampton.

Student Doug Clifton, 19, said: "I just thought I had a bad headache but 48 hours later I was in an ambulance."

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) said only one of these cases was confirmed.

All five are believed to have contracted the infection, also called Weil's Disease, in November."
