New Zealand : Virus can spread during flights

Via Stuff :

" Travellers have a "small but measurable" risk of contracting pandemic A/H1N1 influenza, or swine flu, during long-haul flights, research by Otago University has found.

The research, published online by the British Medical Journal, was based on New Zealand's first brush with swine flu in April 2009 when an infected secondary school group returned to Auckland from a trip to Mexico.

Nine people were unwell during the flight and were confirmed to have swine flu.

Two other passengers became sick after the flight and the virus was confirmed.

The timing of their illness was consistent with exposure during the flight and the virus's known incubation period, the researchers found."
