India : Pregnant woman dies of swine flu

" A 30-year-old pregnant woman who was with her parents in Araku valley in Visakha Agency for the last few months, died of swine flu at the Government Hospital for Chest and Communicable Diseases here on Wednesday.

The woman was suffering from fever, cold and cough since July 27 and when she had gone to a gynaecologist at S. Kota for regular check-up on July 31, the doctor referred her to the Government Chest Hospital here. She was admitted here on August 1 and when her condition became critical on Tuesday night, she was put on the ventilator. She died on Wednesday morning, District Nodal Officer for swine flu L.B.S.H. Devi said.

The victim had gone to her parents' house three months ago from Vizianagaram district for delivery.

This was the third death due to swine flu in the district since June 14, said Dr. Devi. In addition one patient each from Srikakulam and East Godavari districts and two patients from Vizianagaram, brought here for treatment in critical condition, died while undergoing treatment at the Govt. Chest Hospital or private hospitals in the recent past.

Since June 14, seven swine flu positive cases were reported in Visakhapatnam district, six in Vizianagaram district, four in Srikakulam district and one in East Godavari, she said."
