Nepal : High alert stressed to prevent bird flu

" BIRGUNJ: Concerned sector experts have stressed the need of placing high alert and completely banning the import and export of poultry, poultry products and poultry production materials from flu-prone zone to get protected from the outbreak of bird flu.

At a workshop organised by Department of Livestock Service, Influenza Prevention Project, Kathmandu on 'Role of stakeholders on the prevention of bird flu' on Wednesday, they underlined the need to create massive public awareness on the measures to be adopted to get away from bird flu infections.

General Director of the Department, Dr. Prabhakar Pathak said every household should be prepared to adopt organic safety measures to remain aloof from the outbreak of bird flu in Nepal.

He informed that as many as 56,875 chickens were destroyed in Nepal during the past couple of years to get protected from bird flu epidemic."
