India, Odisha : 40 test positive for dengue in capital so far

Via New Indian Express :

" Forty persons of the Capital City have so far been tested positive for dengue.

There has been a surge in the number of cases in the last three days at the Capital Hospital. While there were 35 dengue patients in the Hospital on Saturday morning, 10 of them were discharged and two referred to SCB Medical at Cuttack by the evening.

“Though the number of dengue patients rose in the last three days, lack of adequate number of beds and mosquito nets was a major problem that hospital authorities faced,” said Capital Hospital Director Sudhir Chandra Mallik. More number of people who doubt that they might have contracted the disease is also rising. Two additional staff have been provided for testing patients for dengue in the hospital.

On the other hand, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has intensified its anti-dengue drive across the city. About 120 volunteers have been assigned as a part of the drive to create awareness on the disease.

“We are trying to make the residents understand that dengue mosquitoes breed in clean stagnant water and not in drains,” said BMC Chief Medical Officer Chandrika Prasad Das.

He added that despite showing the larvae that might be breeding inside their residence, like inside an abandoned tyre, the residents refuse to take precautionary measures and clean their surroundings."
