India : LSR student latest victim of dengue

An article from Times of India, a student becomes the latest fatality from dengue :

" NEW DELHI: A second year student of Lady Shri Ram (LSR) College is the latest person to fall victim to dengue in the city. The 19-year-old girl, who was admitted to a south Delhi hospital for two weeks, succumbed to the disease on Wednesday.

"The 19-year-old girl was admitted to our hospital two weeks ago with high fever and a low platelet count. She had tested positive for dengue. She died due to multiple organ failure," said a Moolchand Hospital official, where the LSR student was admitted. A close friend of the girl said, "She was a bright student. She wanted to become a journalist. Her death has shocked us all."

Two other patients, residents of Jamia Nagar, are suspected to have died due to the disease at Holy Family Hospital. Residents of Jamia Nagar have alleged that the incidence of dengue in their area is very high and that MCD was under-reporting cases and the number of deaths caused by the acute viral infection. "More than nine people have died in the last 10 days due to dengue here. The MCD is not reporting cases and few measures are being taken to control the spread of the disease in the area, which has the Yamuna river flowing nearby," said residents."
