" Malaria's latest victims were a 16 year old boy from Grant Road, a 40 year old man from Dharavi and a 45 year old assistant sub inspector of police from Worli. Assistant Sub Inspector Ramdas Raut, was posted at c. He was ill since July 29 and died on Saturday at Balaji Hospital in Byculla at 11am. Their deaths took the malaria toll in Mumbai to 11.
Dengue killed an 18 year old boy from Worli on Friday. Dengue is transmitted by the bite of Aides Aegypti mosquito.
While the malaria carrying mosquito bites during the night, the Aides Aegypti bites during the day. Aedes aegypti breeds primarily in man made containers like earthenware jars, metal drums and concrete cisterns used for domestic water storage.
At least 729 Mumbaiites were hospitalised with various monsoon related ailments between Friday and Saturday morning. Of these, 216 were suffering from malaria, 417 from fever, four from dengue, three from leptospirosis and 89 from gastroenteritis.
Nine more people, including two children, tested positive for swine flu on Saturday."
