Pakistan : BBH receives first confirmed case of the season

" The outpatient department of the Benazir Bhutto Hospital received a confirmed positive case of dengue fever, the first reported case of infection from the town in year 2011.

Zohaib, aged 20, who is residing in village Sohan located along Islamabad Highway was tested positive from National Institute of Health (NIH), Islamabad, last week for Dengue Fever, however, he has achieved compete cure, said a senior doctor at BBH while talking to ‘The News’ here on Sunday.

The doctor who wanted his name not to be published said that Zohaib came to the BBH two weeks back with complaints of high fever and low platelets count.

The BBH sent his blood sample for dengue serology to the NIH while the patient left hospital after initial treatment. On Saturday, the patient visited the OPD of BBH along with confirmatory report from the NIH, said the doctor.

It is important that the confirmation of a positive case in the region of the country has proved the existence of mosquito ‘aedes aegypti’, the vector that causes Dengue Fever.

The first confirmed case of the infection has also put a challenge before the concerned government authorities working on the subject of elimination of the mosquitoes and control on the disease."
