Kenya says no cases of yellow fever disease

Via Xinhua :

" NAIROBI, May 4 : The Kenyan government said on Wednesday there are no confirmed cases of yellow fever in the country, even as it awaits for final results of tests from suspected cases.

Kenya's Public Health and Sanitation Minister Beth Mugo on Wednesday said cases of suspected yellow fever have not been clinically proven.

"One of the two patients suspected to have died of yellow fever three weeks ago at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital had their blood sample tested at Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) laboratory and results were negative. The other patient drank poison before dying of hemorrhage. The final results will be released by the end of this week," Mugo told journalists in Nairobi.

The minister was responding to media reports of a suspected yellow fever outbreak in Baringo County where patients in its two health facilities have presented symptoms commonly associated with the virus.

At present there is no clinical information from these two cases to suggest the presence of yellow fever virus, which is transmitted through the bite of a female mosquito."
