Malaysia : Current Situation of Influenza A (H1N1) as of May 5, 2010

H1N1 update as of May 05, 2010. Another fatality has been reported, plus the ILI cases has also increased:

" Until 8:00 am on May 5, 2010, the Ministry has received eight (8) reports of ILI cluster cases from the following five (5) states as listed in 'Appendix 1'.

Meanwhile, until at 5:30 pm on May 4, 2010, a total of 39 confirmed cases of influenza A (H1N1) was reported for a cumulative number of 13,832 cases to date. The remaining number of ILI cases that are being treated in the wards in the country are 538 cases. Of these, 46 cases (8.6%) were confirmed positive influenza A (H1N1). The number of patients being treated in the ICU are six (6) whereby four (4) of them has risk factors.

Ministry of Health has received one (1) report in today's H1N1 death caused by influenza virus A (H1N1). This brings the cumulative number of H1N1 fatalities in the country to date to 82 people.

The one fatality is as follows:

A 40 year old male with no risk factors who has been experiencing symptoms of fever and cough for six days before being admitted to Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital, Ipoh on 27 April 2010. He was treated in the intensive care unit and he had respiratory problems due to severe pneumonia and passed away on May 1, 2010. The discussion of experts has confirmed that the cause of death is caused by influenza virus A (H1N1)."
