Malaysia : H1N1 Claims Another Victim

" A 40-year-old man died of influenza A (H1N1) on Wednesday, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Mohd Ismail Merican.

He said although the victim did not have any risk factors, he was down with fever and cough for six days before he was admitted to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh on April 27.

This bring the number of A (H1N1) casualties to 82, he said in a statement.

Ismail said eight influenza-like illness (ILI) clusters were reported in Kuala Lumpur, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Johor and Selangor.

The affected places are:

* Kuala Lumpur: Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Bintang Utara Taman Shamelin Perkasa and SK Taman Midah, both in Cheras;

* Negeri Sembilan: Ulu Pari National Service Training camp, Rembau and a family in Taman Gemas Indah, Gemas.

* Melaka: Sekolah Rendah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina Key Seng Bukit Baru;

* Johor: Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Sains Johor and Batu Pahat Health Clinic; and

* Selangor: Integrated Islamic School Kota Damansara.

Dr Mohd Ismail said the total number of ILI patients warded nationwide was 538, of which 46 were confirmed A (H1N1) cases while six patients were placed at the Intensive Care Unit.

He reminded the public to be vigilant and take preventive measures to curtail the spread of A (H1N1) virus as the infection was still active in the community."
