Indonesia : Sintang, West Kalimantan - Bird flu spreads to Sintang

A report from Ida at Bird Flu Information Corner, more outbreaks of Bird Flu :

" Sintang : Kecamatan (sub-district) Sintang, West Kalimantan province has been infected by bird flu H5N1. This was confirmed by Agriculture, Livestock and Fishery Service through examination to dead birds.

Head of Agriculture, Livestock and Fishery Service of Sintang, Arbudin said of 21 chicken samples tested, 8 was bird flu positive.

Arbudin also mentioned they received reports about sudden dead in chickens from several villages in Kecamatan Sintang since last June “In June we dispatched team as soon as we received reports, but the test was negative. Also for July” said Arbudin. “But during August, again we received reports of chicken deaths and done rapid test in two suspected areas. Eight samples were positive. All was from Baning village,” added Arbudin.

As H5N1 was confirmed, officials conducted control and prevention measures by depopulation of birds around suspected areas and, mapping outbreak points and inspection to chicken transport vehicles."
