Dengue cases drop; deaths rise

" ROXAS City : Dengue cases in the province decreased from 178 cases on August 22–28 to 62 new cases on September 5–11, according to the Provincial Health Office.

Currently, there are only a total of 2,665 cases based on reports of the Capiz Epidemiology Surveillance and Response Unit (CESRU).

The number of fatalities, however, rose to 19. The latest was a 10-year-old girl from Brgy. Libas here.

According to the CESRU, the trend of new dengue cases per week (partial) is as follows:

* July 4 to July10 – 171
* July 11 to July 17 – 189
* July 18 to July 14 – 234
* July 25 to July 31 – 248
* August 1 to 7 – 357
* August 8 to 14 – 231.

Local government units and nongovernment organizations continue with the campaign against the disease.

According to Gov. Victor Tanco, unlimited assistance to poor dengue patients confined in government hospitals is still ongoing.

But the patients, he said, should be identified by the Department of Social Welfare and Development."
