India : Dengue cases in Delhi 1 short of the 2,225 mark

Via Med Guru :

" An outbreak of dengue fever has hit Delhi ahead of the upcoming Commonwealth Games (CWG), with health authorities fighting a losing battle to contain the epidemic before the event opens.

With 71 fresh cases emerging in the national capital on Saturday, the total number of people infected with the vector-borne disease reached the 2,224 mark.

According to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), five persons including one from outside the capital have succumbed to the disease this season.

The south zone is the hardest hit accounting for 344 cases followed closely by the Civil Lines Zone which reported 319 cases.

In addition, the Central Zone and Rohini have reported 278 and 253 infections respectively.

“The dengue cases will start showing a decline once the monsoon ends. While we are carrying out fogging exercises in open areas and taking anti-larval measures on the Yamuna, nothing seems to be enough because of the continuing rains,” said Dr. N.K. Yadav, Municipal Health Officer MCD."
