India : Cholera death on rise in Orissa, Depts start blaming each other

Via Orissa Diary, excerpt :

" Bhubaneswar: With the death toll rising due to cholera and the situation turning grim in tribal dominated Rayagada, Govt. depts. have started playing blame games with no stones returned. Depts like Health and Family Welfare, Rural Development and Panchayatiraj which have the task to provide safe drinking water, sanitize the affected areas are now shifting these charges to one another.

According to sources in govt., the Secy of health dept. Anu Garg spoke to Rural Development secretary Rangalal Jamuda on the issue of providing safe drinking water to villages. But suddenly, RD dept. shifted the responsibility to Panchayatiraj dept. saying, all the charges relating to maintenance of rural pipe water supply has been given to panchayatiraj dept. from 2006."
