- The state of national emergency has been extended for another seven days, until midnight Monday 14 March. It is expected that the state of national emergency will continue to be extended for some weeks. See Minister's media release (7 March)
- The number of confirmed fatalities is 166 (at 1006hrs, 6 March).
- New Zealand Police have now identified 44 people who have died as a result of the earthquake, including six foreign citizens (1 from Japan, 1 from Korea, 2 from Thailand and 2 from Israel) . Names have been released on http://www.police.govt.nz/list-deceased (at 1810hrs, 7 March)
- 118 people are reported as missing (unaccounted for). This number will include many, or all, of the fatalities (at 0610hrs 7 March.
- 70,520 commercial and residential buildings have been assessed. 1, 359 commercial buildings and 1,368 residential buildings have been red stickered.
