Australia : Mosquito-borne diseases threaten health in Western Australia

From Xinhua, excerpt :

" SYDNEY, April 12 (Xinhua) : People who are living and holidaying in northern and central Western Australia (WA) should take extra care against mosquito bites as mosquito-borne disease risk has been intensifying in the areas, the Western Australian Department of Health warned on Tuesday.

Following confirmation of brain inflammation in a resident of Carnarvon, a costal town of WA, the Department of Health reiterated its warning to people holidaying in the regions.

The Department said in a statement on Tuesday that the inflammation of the brain was caused by Murray Valley Encephalitis (MVE) virus or Kunjin virus.

Several other possible cases of MVE infection are being investigated in Kimberley and Pilbara residents in northern WA, the Department said."
