India : Health Dept. on alert over flu case

" The Department of Public Health is on high alert in the district following a new case of A (H1N1) influenza, reported here after a gap of two to three months. A 29-year-old woman, in her eighth month of pregnancy, has tested positive and is in an isolation ward at a private hospital in the city.

The woman is on ventilator, but her condition is stable, Deputy Director of Health Services S. Senthilkumar told The Hindu on Sunday. She became the 512 {+t} {+h} positive case in the district since last May. As many as 412 of these cases were from the urban areas. Four other affected persons died.

Dr. Senthilkumar said the woman's parents at Pollachi in the district were not affected, but efforts were on to find out whether her husband in Bangalore had any symptoms. The official said the woman and her husband were residing at Sithagundapalaya in Bangalore. She was a Human Resources Officer in a multi-national company. She had come to her parents' house at Pollachi on April 24 and was admitted to the private hospital on April 28. A test conducted on April 30 confirmed she was flu positive."
