Malaysia : When it's best to stay clear

From the News Straits Times, the only paper which I can find covering the latest Malaysian H1N1 update in today's edition :

" Those with influenza-like illness (ILI) should stay away from crowded areas to stop the spread of H1N1 cases in the country.

Director-General of Health Tan Sri Dr Ismail Merican said the move would also prevent the spread of cluster cases in schools, training centres and the workplace.

"The nature of the virus is such that it infects others fast. "Those with ILI have a social obligation not to go to crowded areas," he said in a statement yesterday.

The call came as 41 new cases were reported two days ago, bringing the total number of people infected to 14,033 since the outbreak started.

To date, 655 had been warded with ILI and out of that, 95 cases were H1N1 positive. The new cluster cases reported are from:

- Tangkas Kendiri National Service Training Centre in Kuala Kangsar,
- Batu Pahat District Health Office, Johor,
- Cheneh Cemerlang National Service Training Centre in Kemaman, Terengganu; and,
- Merang Suria National Service Training Centre in Setiu, Terengganu.

He urged trainers to separate trainees with ILI immediately and asked parents and guardians to prevent children with symptoms from attending school."
