" Mangalore, Jun 5: Since the last some weeks, many people suffering from fever have been getting admitted into hospitals in Puttur and Beltangady taluks. Laboratory tests have revealed that several of them suffer from dengue, which had set its foot in these places around this time last year.
18 persons suffering from unregulated fever symptoms are being treated for suspected dengue in several hospitals in Puttur taluk. Out of them, three have tested positive for dengue fever. The places where the disease has spread its tentacles include Nelyady, Shiradi, Kadaba, Kaukrady and surrounding villages. Totattady in Beltangady taluk is the place where suspected dengue has raised its ugly head this time, with two cases having been diagnosed as dengue. A student from Totattady also has got admitted to a hospital in the city with symptoms of dengue fever.
Dakshina Kannada district health officer, Dr Jagannath, has confirmed that 139 persons living in Kadaba and nearby places, who got treated for fever between May 30 and June 3, were suffering from viral fever. He said that during the spot inspection, 45 persons out of 122 out-patients were found to be suffering from cold and fever and that all the 36 persons who were subjected to blood tests, tested negative for the presence of malaria parasite."
