Malaysia: Current Situation of Influenza A (H1N1) - June 4, 2010 (another fatality reported)

The latest H1N1 update, another casualty from the dreaded H1N1 virus. Note the increase in ICU cases :

“ In the last 24 hours, a total of four (4) new reports of ILI cluster cases were reported in the following four (4) states as shown in Appendix 1. There are a total of 62 active ILI clusters throughout the entire country.

A total of 48 new cases were confirmed, bringing the total cumulative cases of influenza A (H1N1) to 14,912. The remaining numbers of ILI cases being treated in hospital wards across the country are 532 cases of which 76 cases or 14.3% confirmed positive confirmed influenza A (H1N1). The number of H1N1 cases being treated in the ICU is 8 patients with 7 of them having risk factors.

One case of fatality from H1N1 involving a 14 years old teenage girl with no risk factors was reported from the state of Perak. Results of medical reports and clinical results confirmed that the cause of death was 'severe bilateral pneumonia' due to the infection of influenza virus A (H1N1). This brings the cumulative number of fatalities in the country to 88."
