India : Mumbai malaria death toll reaches 45

" MUMBAI: Two persons died of malaria last night here, taking the death toll to six due to the disease since August, health officials said today. The fresh victims of malaria include a 50-year-old man, a resident of Goregaon, and a 16-year-old boy, a resident of Haji Ali, they said.

Altogether, over 45 deaths have been reported due to malaria since January this year, they said. Over 200 persons suffering from malaria were admitted to the hospital today, they said, adding that total number of malaria patients admitted to various city hospitals since August has reached to 988.

Meanwhile, a 40-year-old woman, a resident of Kurla, died due to Swine Flu last night, taking the death toll to two since August. Altogether nine persons are undergoing treatment for H1N1 influenza here, they said.

Also, a 45-year-old man, a resident of Byculla, died due to leptospirosis. This is first death due to the disease this month, the health officials said."
