Health ministry issues notices to Indian doctors took part in Lancet's NDM-1 study

Via Pharma Biz :

" Even as the controversy surrounding the medical journal Lancet's recent report on the antibiotic-resistant "superbug," New Delhi metallo beta lactamase (NDM-1) refuses to die down, the Union health ministry has issued notices to all the Indian researchers involved in the study asking them to explain what kind of a study they had actually conducted.Sources said that the ministry has issued notices to seven Indian doctors who were part of the study.

The doctors have been asked to explain the kind of study they had conducted and the circumstances that led to the naming of the bacteria after the capital city of the country. Though no time frame has been given to make the reply, these doctors have been asked to respond to the government's explanation notice as early as possible.

Sources also said that the ministry is annoyed over the report as the antibiotic-resistant superbug has been named after the capital city of the country which will have its own impact on the ever growing medical tourism in the country."
