India : IIMA student dies; institute says it is not a case of dengue

" A student of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA) here died of illness on Monday evening. Confirming the news, institute officials said the student died of a disease called Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis (ADEM).

The deceased, Ayush Joshi, who was a first year student of the institute’s flagship course, Post-Graduate Programme in Management (PGP), was ill for about a week. He passed away at the Sanjivani Hospital at Vastrapur around 6:30pm on Monday. A condolence meeting was held in the institute around 9:30pm.

There were reports circulating on the campus that Joshi died of dengue, but the institute has denied it. When contacted, the manager of Global Partnerships and Corporate Affairs at IIMA, Ishita Solanki, said, “The death was not due to dengue but a disease called ADEM.”
