India : Dengue claims another life, toll reaches 3

A report from Times of India, datelined Lucknow :

" LUCKNOW: Even as suspected dengue cases continue to pour in from across the city, the disease claimed one more life on Friday, taking the toll in the city to over three.

Mismanagement prevailed at government hospitals because out-patient-department (OPD) services were available only till noon due to half-working day.

The blood bank at Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University decided to put restrictions on the purchase of platelets to prevent 'panic buying'. But health officials maintained that the situation is under control as the fogging is being done, and so there is no need for people to panic.
Matim (30), a resident of Nakkhas, died due to dengue at a private hospital in Tudiaganj. Matim was admitted with dengue shock syndrome on Thursday. The doctors initially could not diagnose the disease and experimented with different medicines as the patient was complaining of acute pain in the abdomen. By the time dengue was confirmed and family members could shift Matim to another hospital, it was too late. Earlier, two police personnel in the city have died due to dengue so far. While the death toll could be over 30, the health officials claimed that only one dengue death has taken place till date."
