From Ida at Bird Flu Information Corner, excerpt :
" Initial examination of bird flu suspect patient treated in Adam Malik hospital, (MH, 15-year-old, from Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam), showed lung and brain disturbances.
Head of Bird Flu Control in Adam Malik hospital, Luhur Soeroso, said patient had lung infection but was not the typical of bird flu. Other findings were the presence of lung blockage, probably because of exudate or others. His white blood count was 20,000, while in bird flu patients usually counted within the range of 1,500-2,000.
Luhur doubted the patient had been infected by bird flu, but as there were many chickens died-off around patient’s neighborhood making him stated as bird flu suspect.
In addition to the lung problem, patient was also showing nerve signs such as convulsion. Neurological examination showed encephalitis or inflammation of brain, which might have been the cause of high fever."
