" State health officials say they have confirmed the first two influenza cases in the state for the 2011-2012 season.
Both cases were in Southeast Michigan: Influenza A/H3 was confirmed in a Wayne County adult, and influenza B was confirmed in a Washtenaw County adult. Both strains of the virus are included in the flu vaccine available this year, state health officials said.
The Michigan Department of Community Health released information about the two cases Tuesday as part of its campaign urging flu vaccinations.
Cathy Raevsky, administrative health officer for the Kent County Health Department, said there is plenty of vaccine available."
