" At least three people died and more than 50 others are suffering from diarrhea in the northeastern part of Leyte province.
Dr. Edgardo Daya, officer-in-charge at the Leyte provincial health office, said the affected areas include the towns of Calubian, Leyte, San Isidro and Tabango, where victims were children and women.
“Those that died were children from Barangay Ol-og and Kawayan in Calubian. They earlier complained of stomach ache, loose bowel movement and vomiting. There are around 54 patients confined at the Northwestern Leyte Hospital in Calubian,” Dr. Daya said.
“We expect more patients to be admitted as some barangay officials have reported many of their residents are complaining of stomach ache and dehydration following fever,” Daya added.
Daya said a team of health workers from the Leyte Provincial Hospital equipped with medicine went to Calubian to treat the patients."
