Malaysia : Current Situation of Influenza A (H1N1) as of 19 April 2010

The latest from the Ministry of Health, which includes the fatality which I mentioned / posted earlier. Please read the whole report:

" Up until 8:00 am on April 19, 2010, the Ministry received only one (1) report of ILI incident cases. The incident occurred in Bukit Sentosa 2 Secondary School, Bukit Sentosa Rawang, Selangor involving two (2) students. One was treated as an outpatient while the other was admitted to the hospital. Both were given antiviral treatment. The Ministry is still waiting for the results of throat samples taken.

Meanwhile, until 5:30 pm on 18 April 2010, a total of 31 confirmed cases of Influenza A (H1N1) was reported bringing a total number of cases is 13,158 to date. The remaining number of ILI cases that are currently being treated in the wards in the country are 550 cases. Of these, 66 cases (12.0%) were confirmed positive influenza A (H1N1). There are two (2) new patients to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) while one was discharged. The remaining number of patients being treated in the ICU are 13 cases in which ten (10) of them has risk factors.

Referring to the H1N1 death of a 4 years old girl at the Sibu Hospital, Sarawak reported by a Chinese-language newspaper yesterday, the Ministry would like to explain that the results of medical reports and discussions of experts from the Sungai Buloh Hospital, Seremban Hospital and Kuching Hospital, the death is categorized as a category 2 which is not caused directly by H1N1 but complications of bacterial infections in the lungs and blood ("pneumococcal pneumonia and sepsis with underlying H1N1 infection").

I may not be a medical expert but to me a death is a death no matter what you classify it as. My heartfelt condolence goes out to the family of the 4 year old girl who has passed away.
