US : Salmonella outbreak prompts recall of alfalfa sprouts in U.S.

" At least 23 people fell sick after eating salmonella-tainted alfalfa sprouts, prompting a nationwide recall of the vegetable in the United States, it was announced on Friday.

An infant in Oregon was among the sickened, according to the Oregon Department of Human Services, which announced the recall.

The outbreak includes cases in the following 10 states -- Oregon, Idaho, California, Nevada, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Illinois, Missouri and Wisconsin.

The outbreak, which started in March, was traced to alfalfa sprouts sold under several labels that were produced by Caldwell Fresh Foods of Maywood, California, according to the department.

The produce was sold at certain outlets of Trader Joe's and Wal- Mart, among other retailers in 19 states, the department said."
