Venezuelan Government Confirms 37 Cholera Cases

" CARACAS : Tests have confirmed that 53 Venezuelans who attended a wedding last week in the Dominican Republic are infected with cholera, the Andean nation’s health minister said on Thursday.“All are already confirmed, all the cultures gave us positive results, so in Venezuela there are 37.

Apart from the 37 that there are in Venezuela, we have a report of 12 in the Dominican Republic, two in Madrid, one in Mexico and one in Boston,” Eugenia Sader told a press conference in Caracas.She said all the sick people attended a wedding celebration on Jan. 22 in the Dominican Republic, although a total of 452 Venezuelans were at the ceremony and could have consumed food infected with the cholera virus.

“Our objective is for these 452 people to receive appropriate attention,” she said, adding that fewer than 10 of the people diagnosed with the disease remain hospitalized."
