" The Prince Albert Parkland Health Region is limiting visitor access to Level 4 at Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert due to an outbreak of C. difficile.
Clostridium difficile (C. difficile) is a spore-forming bacteria that causes gastrointestinal symptoms such as watery diarrhea, fever and abdominal pain. It is considered an antibiotic resistant organism as the spores it produces can be exceptionally difficult to remove from the body and the environment.
There have been five confirmed cases of C. difficile at the hospital since July 8th. Two more patients are suspected to be infected.
No visitors are allowed on the floor, except immediate family members that have received permission.
All patients have been isolated in private rooms with strict entry and proper health precautions are being exercised. Cleaning rotations on Level 4 have been increased and residents are using specific cleaning solutions for C. difficile."
