Malaysia : Sad Teachers Day at Cheng School

Via New Straits Times, indeed a sad story but what puzzles me is that how come the Malaysian Ministry of Health did not pick up on this and report it. I hope to see an explaination in media soon, in the mean time, God bless the soul of the departed :

" MELAKA : Teachers Day observed today at Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan Cheng here today will long be remembered by the teachers and pupils - for an entirely different reason.

Today also saw the passing of Siti Khatijah Mat, 50, a special education teacher of the school, from suspected Influenza A (H1N1) at the Melaka Hospital.

A fellow teacher, Hafiz Husaini, 24, said the Teachers Day celebration was called off as a mark of respect for Siti Khatijah.

"After the reading of the Teachers Day message, the Yasin verse was read out," he said.

Siti Khatijah died at about 5am at the Melaka Hospital, six days after she was transferred there from a private hospital where she was suspected to be suffering from dengue fever.

Her husband, Zulkifli Johar, 50, said Siti Khatijah was admitted to the private hospital at the end of last month after she developed fever.

"My wife did not recover from the fever and she was transferred to the Melaka Hospital. A blood test revealed that she was suffering from H1N1," he told reporters.

Zulkifli, who is a sports coordinator at the Melaka Foundation College, and Siti Khatijah have two children, a girl and a boy aged 25 and 11, respectively.

Melaka Director of Health Datuk Dr Azmi Hashim declined to say whether Siti Khatijah had died of H1N1 because such confirmation can only be given by the Director-General of Health."
